Instance-Based OWL Schema Matching
نویسندگان
چکیده
Schema matching is a fundamental issue in many database applications, such as query mediation and data warehousing. It becomes a challenge when different vocabularies are used to refer to the same real-world concepts. In this context, a convenient approach, sometimes called extensional, instancebased or semantic, is to detect how the same real world objects are represented in different databases and to use the information thus obtained to match the schemas. This paper describes an instance-based schema matching technique for an OWL dialect. The technique is based on similarity functions and is backed up by experimental results with real data downloaded from data sources found on the Web.

Matching of Ontologies with XML Schemas Using a Generic Metamodel
Schema matching is the task of automatically computing correspondences between schema elements. A multitude of schema matching approaches exists for various scenarios using syntactic, semantic, or instance information. The schema matching problem is aggravated by the fact that models to be matched are often represented in different modeling languages, e.g. OWL, XML Schema, or SQL DDL. Consequen...
متن کاملSPIMBench: A Scalable, Schema-Aware Instance Matching Benchmark for the Semantic Publishing Domain
Instance matching systems and methods need to be tested using well de ned and widely accepted benchmarks to determine the weak and strong points thereof and also to motivate the development of more complete systems. A benchmark should test the overall quality of the instance matching system in terms of measures such as precision, recall, and F-measure as well as the ability to handle large and ...
متن کاملOntology Consistency and Instance Checking for Real World Linked Data
Many large ontologies have been created which make use of OWL’s expressiveness for specification. However, tools to ensure that instance data is in compliance with the schema are often not well integrated with triple-stores and cannot detect certain classes of schema-instance inconsistency due to the assumptions of the OWL axioms. This can lead to lower quality, inconsistent data. We have devel...
متن کاملAn Improved Semantic Schema Matching Approach
Schema matching is a critical step in many applications, such as data warehouse loading, Online Analytical Process (OLAP), Data mining, semantic web [2] and schema integration. This task is defined for finding the semantic correspondences between elements of two schemas. Recently, schema matching has found considerable interest in both research and practice. In this paper, we present a new impr...
متن کاملOWL-SAIQL — A Schema and Instance Query Language for OWL DL
Existing approaches for querying OWL DL do either only operate on syntactic constructs without taking into account the semantics of OWL or do only have a restricted access to the T-Box. We present OWL-SAIQL, the novel Schema And Instance Query Language for OWL DL, that is well suited for ontology extraction. We describe its syntax and provide a model-theoretic semantics for OWL-SAIQL. Furthermo...
